Meaning
Reports the outcome a process led to: an examination, a discussion, sustained effort. It sounds formal and businesslike. Before 結果 comes only a verb in the た form or a noun with の, never the dictionary form.
Formation
- V (た form)+結果 (、): 話し合った → 話し合った結果
- V (なかった form)+結果: 準備しなかった → 準備しなかった結果
- Noun+する → した+結果: 検討する → 検討した結果
- Noun+の+結果 (、): 調査 → 調査の結果
When to use it
- Where to use it
- In reports, news, business letters and accounts of outcomes: 検査の結果、異常はありませんでした; 話し合った結果、延期に決まった.
- Where not to use it
- Not with the dictionary form (✗話し合う結果), and not for a simple cause with no process behind it: "because of the rain" is 雨のため, not ✗雨の結果. It sounds heavy in casual chat.
