Meaning
Use it when A must be completed before B becomes possible or permitted. It is not for the neutral sequence 'do A and then B'; use ordinary ~てから for that.
Formation
- Vて+からでないと/からでなければ+negative or restrictive B
When to use it
- Where to use it
- It fits rules, admission, verification, understanding, and other situations in which B is impossible or forbidden without A.
- Where not to use it
- Do not use it when A merely precedes B rather than being required, especially before a freely chosen positive action.

Important notes
- B commonly contains できない, 分からない, ~てはいけない, or another expression of impossibility or restriction.
Common mistakes
- Do not remove the negative logic from the second clause; a plain positive B often breaks the construction.
- Do not translate it as two independent negatives; the whole pattern means 'not before A is done.'
