Meaning

Adds the meaning of doing an action again in order to correct the result.

Formation

  1. Drop ます and add 直す: 書きます → 書き直す

  • 直す can mean doing an action again to correct or improve it.

Common mistakes

  • Use the ます stem: 書き直す. For a simple repeat use もう一度: もう一度見る means watching again; 見直す means reviewing or checking.
