Meaning

A polite pattern used when the speaker asks for permission to do something personally.

Formation

  1. Causative せる in the て form + ください: 帰らせてください
  2. More polite: 帰らせていただけませんか

Important notes

  • The speaker asks permission for their own action: 私にも説明させてください.

Common mistakes

  • 説明してください asks the listener to explain; 説明させてください asks to be allowed to explain.
