Meaning
A polite but fairly direct request for the listener to perform an action.
Formation
- Put the verb in the te-form and add ください: 書く → 書いてください.
- Forms ending in で stay that way: 読む → 読んでください.
When to use it
- Request
- Asks the listener to perform a specific action.
- Instruction
- Marks the next step in rules or explanations.
Example
ここに名前を書いてください
Please write your name here.
Important notes
- It sounds neutral in instructions but may feel like an order in a personal situation; tone and relationship matter.
Common mistakes
- Check the te-form: 読んて is wrong; the correct form is 読んで.
