Forms a polite request to perform an action

Meaning

A polite but fairly direct request for the listener to perform an action.

Formation

  1. Put the verb in the te-form and add ください: 書く → 書いてください.
  2. Forms ending in で stay that way: 読む → 読んでください.

When to use it

Request
Asks the listener to perform a specific action.
Instruction
Marks the next step in rules or explanations.

Example

ここ名前なまえ書いかいください

Please write your name here.

Important notes

  • It sounds neutral in instructions but may feel like an order in a personal situation; tone and relationship matter.

Common mistakes

  • Check the te-form: 読んて is wrong; the correct form is 読んで.
