  • と joins nouns in a complete list — パンと牛乳を買いました. A shared particle comes after the whole group: 母と父に電話した.

Common mistakes

  • In the sense of “and”, と does not join verbs or clauses: 'eat and sleep' is 食べて寝る. For a list of examples use や.
