Meaning
'The more A, the more B': B changes in proportion to A. The same word is used twice — first in the ば conditional (なら for な-adjectives and nouns), then before ほど.
Formation
- Vば+Vるほど: 読む → 読めば読むほど
- する verbs — Nすれば+するほど — 勉強する → 勉強すればするほど
- Vなければ+Vないほど: 使わない → 使わなければ使わないほど
- Aければ+Aいほど: 近い → 近ければ近いほど
- Aなら(ば)+Aなほど: 静か → 静かなら静かなほど
- Nなら+Nほど: ベテラン → ベテランならベテランほど
- Without the ば part: Vるほど/Aいほど: 考える → 考えるほど

- ✗ 静かなら静かほど → ✓ 静かなら静かなほど — a な-adjective keeps its な before ほど.
- ✗ 食べれば太るほど → ✓ 食べれば食べるほど太る — the same word is repeated, and the result goes in the second part.
