Meaning
Pushes back against a hasty conclusion: "just because A, it doesn't follow that B." The ending is almost always negative: ~わけではない, ~とは限らない, ~ことはない, ~てはいけない. Sometimes it criticizes an action taken "just because of A."
Formation
- Second clause: ~
When to use it
- Where to use it
- In reasoning, advice and arguments against stereotypes:
- Where not to use it
- Not for an ordinary "because" (that's から), and not for "A, but on a small scale" (といっても). It isn't used with a conclusion “so B” that the speaker accepts.
