When to use it
- Where to use it
- For conditions that hold until the situation changes (このルールを守る限り使っていい, 学生である限り), for a single exception (よほどのことがない限り), and for hedging the limits of your knowledge (私の知る限り).
- Where not to use it
- Not for "do it before…" Not for a plain stretch of time with no condition — that is 間.

- N+の+限り is a different expression: 力の限り "with all one's might".
Common mistakes
— a noun attaches via である; Nの限り means "to the limit of N" (力の限り).
— "get home before it gets dark" is うちに; ない限り means "unless", and the sentence stops making sense.
— "unless he objects" needs the ない form.

- 〜ばなければ is a plain "if not"; ない限り is stricter: B will change only in that one case.
- ~に限るNに限る means "N is best" (夏はビールに限る) and has nothing to do with conditions.
