When to use it

- Where not to use it
- Grammar: only the dictionary form goes before purpose には (✗行ったには), and it is normally not used to report something you have already done (✗日本へ行くには、パスポートを取った → 行くために). Style: neutral; in conversation 〜ためには or 〜なら are often used in the same sense.

Important notes
- The second part is a general rule or piece of advice, so it typically contains 必要だ, 〜なければならない, 〜たほうがいい, 〜てください, かかる, いい/便利だ.
- With an evaluation, には sets the standard: 四人で住むには狭い — 'too cramped for four people to live in' (fine for one, perhaps). With a noun, Nには/Nのためには gives a similar meaning: 健康には運動がいい.
Common mistakes
- ✗ 日本へ行くには、パスポートを取った → ✓ 日本へ行くために、パスポートを取った — reporting something you have done takes ために.
- ✗ 空港へ行ったには… → ✓ 空港へ行くには… — only the dictionary form goes before には.
- △ 空港へ行くために、このバスが便利です (meant 'this bus is convenient for getting to the airport') → ✓ 空港へ行くには、このバスが便利です — ために sits most naturally before a deliberate action (行くためにバスに乗る); before an evaluation like 'convenient', native speakers usually say には or ためには.

Pick the translation of each sentence. The wrong options translate similar patterns, so watch the grammar rather than the words.
