Meaning
"Not only N, but others as well": what is said applies to a wider group. It attaches to a noun and is often followed by も, どなたでも, いつも or 何でも. A little more formal than だけでなく.
Formation
- N+に限らず: 学生 → 学生に限らず
- N (time, place)+に限らず: 週末 → 週末に限らず、いつも; 九州 → 九州に限らず
- As a predicate, N+に限らない ("isn't limited to N"): 観光客 → 道に迷うのは観光客に限らない

Important notes
- The second half often generalises: どなたでも, 何でも, いつも, 〜も — N is just one example.
- The negative 限らず means "not limited to N", not "not N": N itself is still included.
Common mistakes
- ✗ 学生で限らず → ✓ 学生に限らず — the verb 限る takes the particle に.
- ✗ この割引は平日に限って、週末も使えます → ✓ 平日に限らず、週末も使えます — に限って means "precisely / only"; you need "not only".
- ✗ 料理が上手に限らず → ✓ 料理が上手なだけでなく — に限らず attaches to nouns; for adjectives and verbs use だけでなく.
