Meaning
Politely proposes a shared action or gently encourages a specific course of action.
Formation
- Remove ます and add ましょう: 食べます → 食べましょう.
- する → しましょう; 来る → 来ましょう(きましょう).
When to use it
- Shared action
- The speaker includes themselves and suggests doing something together.
- Gentle prompt
- Moves everyone to the next step: let's start, look, or go.
Example
一緒に昼ご飯を食べましょう
Let's eat lunch together.
Important notes
- It is more decisive than 〜ませんか because the action is already presented as a plan.
Common mistakes
- Do not add ましょう to the te-form; use the ます-stem.
